Designed as the perfect companion to one of our most distinctive commissions, this custom walnut live edge bench was created for a returning client who wanted to complete the story begun by his one-of-a-kind forest-inspired dining table.

To achieve a seamless pairing, we carefully selected a walnut live edge slab with similar character and movement, then meticulously milled and shaped it to showcase the wood's most captivating natural features. The live edge, bark, and carefully preserved sapwood were intentionally retained, celebrating the authenticity and individuality that only nature can create.

To ensure these delicate natural elements would endure for generations, the bark and sapwood were stabilized with a penetrating epoxy that permanently reinforces the wood while preserving its organic beauty. The result is a surface that maintains its natural character without compromising long-term durability.

The custom steel base was fabricated to mirror the architectural design of the dining table's legs, creating a cohesive visual language between the two pieces while being thoughtfully scaled to complement the proportions of the bench.

As a final signature detail, we designed and handcrafted mushroom-shaped bow tie inlays from richly colored sapele. Their warm amber tones provide a subtle yet elegant contrast against the walnut, echoing the woodland inspiration behind the original table. Beyond their artistic presence, these inlays serve an important structural purpose, helping stabilize the natural checks in the slab while celebrating, rather than concealing, the wood's character.
